I’ve written enough editorials for this magazine over the last eight years on and off to know when things are really about to change. I can say it has been a rocky road.
Wavelength, like a lot of magazines has had its highs and lows, it’s good times and some pretty shitty ones.
But where it’s at right now, at this second in time, is one of the best places for the magazine ever. What is more, it is here because of you the reader, the crowdfunder, the beating heart of the magazine. For whatever I and numerous other writers and photographers do to make this magazine it is nothing without you guys.
You’ll first notice that the guts of the mag are changing, we’ve got some fresh design going on, and I think you’ll agree it’s looking pretty sick.
When we set out to see if we could crowdfund the next stage in the development of the magazine a few months ago, I have to say I was worried. Did anyone care? Would it just be another nail in the coffin of print magazines? Would the whole community turn their backs on us and moved on? Well as you now know those concerns could not have been further from the truth. The level of backing for the magazine has been incredible, from the industry, and more importantly from the readership. Everything from a massive surge in subscriptions to sixty or so of you on this month’s front cover, every little bit means we can now make the future of the magazine that we had planned out a reality.
You’ll first notice that the guts of the mag are changing, we’ve got some fresh design going on, and I think you’ll agree it’s looking pretty sick. We’re again able to call on the very best contributors from around the planet, and put their shots and stories into glorious print where it belongs. Our website is the best it has ever been. Not checked it out yet? It’s right here – www.wavelengthmag.com. These are all just on the surface, start digging below that and you’ll soon see we have even more going on. What is coming up going into autumn in the form of film and photo stories, original film and photo stories, is going to set us apart from anything we’ve done before. It’s all our vision, but without your support, your love for surfing and the magazine, it wouldn’t be possible, so from all of us here at Wavelength – thank you. Get ready for the ride into the future, it’s going to be fun.
