California-based watch and accessories brand Nixon introduces The Base Tide, the newest addition to their Tide Collection.
The Base Tide brings throwback appeal with modern functionalities for the digital age. Inspired by glassy colors achieved on some of the Nixon team’s favorite surfboards, Nixon puts a pop of color into silicone band construction.
The Base Tide makes it debut in Nixon’s latest film spotlighting The Weird. Hosted by Nixon, The Weird is a “winner take all” surf contest placing elite professional and amateur riders on weird boards shaped by John Pyzel of Pyzel Surfboard. Nixon chose 15 of the best riders to compete at Ehukai Beach Park along Oahu’s North Shore.
Competing in 20-minute heats, riders were matched with one of the seven weird boards during a blind draw. The peer judged contest awarded Nixon team rider Josh Kerr with the first place spot and $1000 prize. Check out more from the contest here.
The Base Tide combines simplified tide telling with mod colors and retro contours resulting in a watch that can be worn by surfers and non-riders alike. The Base Tide has a custom digital module that provides basic tide and future tide readings, as well as a 12-hour and 24-hour time of day function; EL back-light; chronograph; and customizable countdown timer.
The display is either positive or negative LCD and the home screen can be set to display time and date or time and tide. Additional details include: a 10 ATM (100 meter) water resistance rating, printed dial masking, a 38mm custom injection molded TR90 case, custom molded polycarbonate gasketed pushes, and a 22mm custom injection molded silicone band with patented locking looper. Retailing for £85.00, The Base Tide is available now at Nixon stores, select retailers and online at Nixon.com
